A breed of legend….
Dorothy Currey or better known as “Dot”, is founder of Clanranald Labradors
My love for dogs started very, very young. Growing up on a family farm setting, I learned how to love, raise, train and most importantly communicate with them. Between my many family members who lived and still live in that setting, we had anywhere from 10 to 25 dogs at any one time. My first dog was a Scottish Rough Collie. I was 2. My grandmother was known across the community as a huge lover of dogs. So much so that puppies from all over were dropped at our doorsteps. Of course, my Grandmother took them in but my Grandfather took care of them. And they followed him all over the property…in a pack. It was cute and endearing. How could you not love that? In fact, the legend of dogs was ingrained in me at an early age as my grandfather told stories of how during the founding of Nashville, my family was saved by their dogs from certain death.
Such is the pre-history of the Clanranald Labradors
That remembrance of the history became indelibly imprinted in my memory. And of course, there were the childhood movies “Old Yellar” and “Greyfriars Bobby” which became my favorites. Then came “Lassie” on TV. I’ve had many dogs but the Labrador Retriever was the love of my life.
